Superintendent's Message

Dear Students, Staff, Parents, Community members and Partners in Learning,

Each day I watch as our staff gets the building ready to open its doors on a new year.  Although students and staff aren't here yet, there is already excitement in the air.

As we begin this year, the health and safety of the students we share will continue to be our first priority.  Covid-19 continues to thrive in our state so we will continue to protect everyone.  An updated mitigation plan will be in place before we begin the year and we respectfully ask that everyone works with us to honor it.  When given the opportunity to provide input, please step up and share your thoughts.  We really do want to hear from you.

The Principal and Superintendent Round-tables will continue this year as in the past to provide opportunities for you to share your ideas.  Other opportunities for your involvement will include service on the Federal Programs Advisory Committee and the Calendar Committee.  The input of all stakeholders is vital to development of a comprehensive program meeting the needs of everyone.  In addition, public input is a part of every School Board Meeting ensuring that your elected Board knows your views.

We are fortunate this year to have a full-time principal, Mr. Edward Snow.  This change in the administrative staff will be a terrific support for everyone.  Please take advantage of the opportunities provided to meet your new principal and teachers and to welcome back returning staff.  Although I am not a full-time Superintendent, I am here about 14 days each month and always available via email.

Thank you for the opportunity to work in the most pleasant community in Alaska.  I look forward to this year and getting to know you even better.

          Norma J. Holmgaard, Superintendent
